I am proud to say that I was born and raised in South Louisiana. I enjoy the culture there, and absolutely love Louisiana seafood and LSU sports. I have lived in many places throughout the country, and have spent the last 14 years out West. But I still call Louisiana home…
At an early age, I had many opportunities to explore electronics and the latest is computer technology. I became very involved in Ham Radio growing up, and loved building radio gear to communicate with others. As Ham Radio leveraged more computer technology over the years, this became my new passion. I was also very fortunate to attend a public ‘engineering’ high school where I was given a great foundation in computer science.
I went on to study Electrical Engineering at Mississippi State University and Louisiana State University, where I received my bachelors degree. My emphasis was in computer engineering, microprocessors, and digital design. I subsequently studied at Colorado State University where I received a Master of Computer Science degree, with a concentration on operating systems, computer architecture, and parallel programming.
A substantial part of my career has been spent working for government contractors in the defense and aerospace industry. One of my first jobs was at Texas Instruments Defense Systems (now Raytheon), where I had the opportunity to work in many technical areas. Out of this opportunity came a passion for UNIX operating systems. Throughout the years I have worked extensively with IRIX (my first UNIX love), Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, and others. I then worked for Thiokol (now ATK) where I spent over a decade managing their High Performance Computing (HPC) practice and resources. And along the way, I have worked with many Finite Element and Computational Fluid Dynamics codes.
I am currently an HPC Computer Scientist at Dell. In my current role, I have the exciting work of architecting HPC systems for maximum performance and manageability for Dell customers. I also have expertise in designing HPC systems for fault tolerance and reliability. You can check out my other HPC blogs over at HPCatDell.com
